General Rules
- Standard USGA rules apply (www.usga-rules.com)
- Specifically, regarding any ball out of play/in a hazard (OB, hazards, red stakes, yellow stakes etc.), all standard USGA rules apply as follows:
- OB/White Stake–you must replay your shot from its original position & incur a 1 stroke penalty
- if its undetermined if your ball is out of play, hit a provisional
- If you hit consecutive drives OB, proceed to where the 2nd ball crossed the OB line and treat as a lateral hazard–play your 5th shot from there.
- Red Stake Hazards are lateral hazards—you must either:
- replay your shot as close as possible to the spot the original shot was played (stroke & distance) – 1 stroke penalty
- drop and play your ball within 2 club lengths of where your ball crossed the hazard line OR at a point on the opposite margin of the water hazard no closer to the hole (stroke and distance) – 1 stroke penalty
- drop behind the water hazard and play your shot anywhere on a line between the point where the ball entered the hazard and the hole. You may move as far back from the hazard on that line as desired – 1 stroke penalty
- play out of the hazard to avoid the penalty stroke but you cannot move impediments or ground your club.
- Yellow Stake Hazards—you must either:
- replay your shot as close as possible to the spot the original shot was played (stroke & distance) – 1 stroke penalty
- drop behind the water hazard and play your shot anywhere on a line between the point where the ball entered the hazard and the hole. You may move as far back from the hazard on that line as desired – 1 stroke penalty
- play out of a hazard to avoid the penalty stroke but you cannot move impediments or ground your club.
- Canadian Rules Apply: You can improve your lie in the rough ONLY if you can roughly prove you’re not lying—simply put don’t roll your ball.
Best Ball Matches
- A player cannot win a hole with any score over a NET double bogey. If the best score on any particular hole is a net triple bogey or higher, the hole is halved and no blood is taken.
- No carryovers or trash in match play.
- Strokes allowed are with the lowest handicapped player in the match at SCRATCH. For example, in a 2-man best ball match, players handicaps are 4, 10, 18, & 24. The lowest handicapped player gets 0 strokes & the other players handicaps are reduced by whatever that players handicap is–in this instance the revised strokes allowed are 0, 6, 12 & 20.
- If you are getting more than 18 strokes in a match, you get 1 stroke per hole and 2 strokes on the hardest holes for which you have strokes remaining i.e. if you’re getting 20 strokes in the match, you get 2 strokes on the #1 & #2 handicap holes.
- Unless your opponent gives you the putt, putt everything out. No begging for gimmies and if you’re still away, it’s not a gimme.
Scramble
- Standard scramble set up: Standard USGA rules apply
- Each team will have 2 x 4-man groups
- Everyone plays a ball from the best shot from the previous spot
- Best result of the group is recorded—one score per hole per team.
- You can play your shots for the “best shot” location within a club length of the selected ball’s resting spot—however you cannot improve your lie. i.e. if you are in the rough you cannot go to the fairway or cannot go from the bunker to the fringe. THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO THE GREEN—play the selected ball on the green from its spot.
- No mulligans
- No gimmes
- Only one shot per player from each “best shot” location/tee box.
- Handicaps do not apply during the scramble.
Miscellaneous
- Get drunk
- Have fun
- No whining
